Officer Steve Wydemeyer was killed in the line of duty. He was riding with [[Baricza]] when they pulled over a woman who was swerving on the freeway. Wydemeyer and Baricza were on the side of the road conducting sobriety tests when their cruiser was hit by a Dove Deliveries van that had been run off the road. Both Baricza and Wydemeyer were thrown and both were injured. Wydemeyer was able to call for assistance before he collapsed. He died at the hospital. Wydemeyer had served in the Marines.
