The "Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department" (LASD or LASO) serves the County of Los Angeles, California and unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. Founded in 1850. In CHiPs deputies assist chippies in pursuing bad guys and rescuing car accident victims [1]. Deputies in CHiPs are also seen in K-9 units [2], county jail and court services.

Rick Rosner creator of CHiPs was a LASD reserve deputy and he is the creator of another TV show similar to CHiPs called 240-Robert. This show follows the adventures of the LASD Emergency Service Detail.

Crossovers between the two shows do not really exist but in the episode "Aweigh We Go" Ponch and Jon have been assisted by two LASO Emergency Service Detail deputies in helping two car accident victims. In the episode "Oil and Water" of 240-Robert a CHP traffic officer (driving a slicktop '78 Dodge Monaco) assists the LASO deputies in helping a trapped hang glider.
