Carol Poncherello was the wife of Frank Poncherello and mother to Frank, Jr..[1]
In 1977, Carol was driving her Volkswagen Beetle when a speeding motorcycle caused her to go off the road. Her car flipped over. Fortunately, CHP officers Baker and Poncherello were on the scene. Ponch kept her company until help arrived.[2]
Sometime after mid-1983, she met up with Ponch again. They eventually moved to Marin County and got married. Their son, Frank, Jr., was born in 1987. Two years later, Carol became ill and Ponch stayed by her side. Carol died in 1989. Mourning the loss of his wife, Ponch painted the Golden Gate Bridge each year for the next ten years until he re-joined the CHP in 1999 and moved back to Los Angeles.[1]
