Dwight O. "Spike" Helmick was the commissioner of the California Highway Patrol from 1995 through 2004.[1] He was appointed to the position by Governor Pete Wilson.[2]
Prior to serving as commissioner, he was appointed deputy commissioner on April 11, 1989.[3]
As the current commissioner at the time, Dwight was thanked in the credits of CHiPs '99.
His father, Dwight O. Helmick, Sr., passed away in Sacramento, California on November 8, 2007.[4]
